Gateway Surgery Center
St. Louis' Premiere Ambulatory Outpatient Surgical Facility
Our Practice
Gateway Surgery Center is an ambulatory outpatient surgical facility specializing in Cataract, Retina, Cornea, Glaucoma, and Oculoplastic surgeries and procedures. The center commenced operations in 2021 and is equipped with four fully integrated surgical suites and two dedicated procedure/laser rooms.
The facility is designed to support the complete perioperative process, including designated preoperative and postoperative areas, to ensure efficient patient flow, privacy, and clinical effectiveness.
Gateway Surgery Center employs a team of licensed and specialty-trained clinical staff, who adhere to the latest evidence-based clinical practice guidelines to ensure procedural safety and optimal outcomes.
Cataract
Cataract surgery is indicated when the decrease in your vision affects you on a daily basis making it difficult for you to perform your daily activities. Cataract surgery has evolved into a delicate, sophisticated, minimally invasive and gentle procedure making for a quick recovery.
The techniques, instruments, and lenses used by our cataract surgeons at Gateway Surgery Center are cutting edge. We like to provide our patients with the same technology that we would offer to our own family member.
Glaucoma
Glaucoma is a condition that results in damage to the optic nerve. This can lead to vision loss and even blindness. It is caused by an increase in pressure inside the eye, which puts stress on the optic nerve.
Treatment options at Gateway include:
- Selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT), Kahook and/or Omni procedures
- I-Stent
- Drainage shunts like the Xen implant
Cornea
The cornea is the clear front part of the eye that helps to focus light. It covers the iris and pupil, and is composed of five layers: the epithelium, Bowman’s layer, stroma, Descemet’s membrane, and endothelium.
Our physicians perform a variety of procedures to treat corneal issues including:
- DMEK
- DSEAK
- PKP
- Gunderson Flap
Retina
The retina is one of the most important structures of our visual system. The retina is a light-sensitive tissue lining the inner surface of the back of the eye and serves a similar function to the film in a camera.
Retinal procedures can address:
- Macular degeneration
- Diabetic eye disease
- Flashers and/or floaters
- Retinal detachment issues
Oculoplastics
An oculoplastic procedure is a type of surgery that deals with the area around the eye including the eye and orbital socket, lids, tear ducts, brows, forehead, upper cheeks and face.
These procedures are usually done by eye doctors (ophthalmologists) who have specialized training in plastic or reconstructive surgery. You may have this procedure to correct a medical problem or for cosmetic reasons.
